Nigeria's Dying Culture
Author: bajegbo moyosore | January 21, 2013

To be modernized is to be real but to forget who you really are is not being real. Nigeria the giant of Africa is popularly known for its rich culture and tourism. Its 36 states are known to have its widely known culture. After her independence in 1960, something we call modernization set out although has helped in various ways but is killing our culture. Our culture shows us, tells who we are, describe what we stand for. I believe my culture can offer me better things than what the so called modernization can. Every body wants to be like the Americans but have you ever thought of doing things that will make them want to be a Nigerian all for our culture. I love my culture, the festivals the bright colors from the cloths made by hand, the language, Igbo Yoruba and Hausa, the wonders in its beauty, name it? My culture made me made my fathers land made Nigeria, what else do could I think of that will make me neglect my culture in a snap. Sometimes I sit to think of this, what if there is noting like modernization? Wont we still be known as the giant of Africa? Would the respect for our culture change? Leaving what you are and helping people maintain what they are, is not what we are. Nigeria, Naturally full of Intelligence, with the combination of Great people, Envied by others because of its Riches, full of Integrity and self respect and most of All for her beautiful culture, gives me a reason to smile. My culture is real and my culture is me. Bajegbo Moyosore Caleb University
